Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay learned to love art from her aunt Denise. She was an evening nurse in order to give her aunt to have the space she required during her day time to enjoy the pleasures of literature, art and theatre. DuVernay became enamored with the film of 1961 West Side Story after her aunt showed it to DuVernay. DuVernay was educated by her mother about how the art form could be utilized as a tool for activism. DuVernay learned to be socially aware through her mother. DuVernay spent her summers in Lowndes County Alabama, where her father was born and was raised. Her father recalled watching the Civil Rights Movement's historic march on the Edmund Pettus Bridge near the town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay's summers spent in Alabama's Selma would inspire her later to make the film about Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in 1990. After graduation she was enrolled at an institution called the University of California Los Angeles where she received certificates in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay began producing television news when she was just a student. She began as an intern with CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was told to examine the garbage from a home belonging to a jury member. As a result of her work she was dissatisfied with journalism, and shifted into the business of publicity. DuVernay got her first job as a publicity specialist in small production studios right after she graduated from school. Her own Public Relations company, The DuVernay Agency was created in 1999. Her agency launched numerous lifestyle and promotion networks, including Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
